About
What this is
Latitudes is a free weekly email for Americans living abroad. Each edition covers one place. It digests the week in the local press, most of it in Spanish, and tells you what matters most to you. Every item links to its source. It arrives Sunday morning and takes about five minutes to read.
Who writes it
Aaron Bailey. I am an American who has lived and worked in Costa Rica and Puerto Vallarta for years, and I read the local press every day anyway. Latitudes is that reading, edited by hand into something a neighbor could use. Replies go to me. Write to hello@latitudes.news.
Latitudes is independent. It's just me and no one else. I may or may not decide to sell sponsorship in the future. If I do, sponsors and advertisers will be clearly marked as such.
Terms
Latitudes is provided free, as is. It summarizes reporting from other publications and links to them; the original outlets own their work and are the place to read the full story. Nothing here is legal, tax, immigration, medical or financial advice. Rules change, sources make mistakes and so do I. Check with a professional before you act on anything that matters, and tell me when I get something wrong.
I may change, pause or stop the newsletter at any time. You may unsubscribe at any time from the footer of any issue.
Privacy
To subscribe you give an email address. That address is used to send you the newsletter and for nothing else. It is not sold, rented or shared. Subscriptions are confirmed by email before anything is sent (double opt-in).
The list is stored with Mailgun, which delivers the email. Like most newsletters, issues record whether they were opened and which links were clicked, so I know what is being read. Unsubscribing removes you from the list; if you want your address deleted entirely, email hello@latitudes.news and it will be.
The website sets no cookies and runs no analytics of its own. It is hosted on Netlify, which keeps standard server logs.
